The St. Tammany Chamber hosted its annual State of Education Breakfast on October 7, 2025, featuring insights from three key Northshore education leaders: Dr. William Wainwright, President of Southeastern Louisiana University; Dr. Jim Carlson, Chancellor of Northshore Technical Community College; and Frank Jabbia, Superintendent of the St. Tammany Parish School System.

The speakers highlighted both challenges and opportunities in the region’s educational landscape, from early literacy and numeracy initiatives to innovative programs preparing students for college and careers. Frank Jabbia emphasized the importance of leadership development in young students, while Dr. Carlson shared the college’s growing role in workforce training across healthcare, STEM and technical fields. Dr. Wainwright highlighted Southeastern’s commitment to cutting-edge programs, including AI integration and expanded health care and business offerings, supporting the Northshore’s economic growth. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the collaborative efforts shaping education in St. Tammany Parish and how these initiatives prepare students for success both locally and beyond.

The breakfast also provided a platform to discuss the region’s long-term educational strategy, including dual enrollment programs, advanced placement courses and the upcoming Discovery, Health Care and STEM Center. These initiatives are designed to give students hands-on learning experiences and keep top talent in the Northshore community. Speakers emphasized partnerships with local businesses, healthcare providers and legislators, ensuring students have opportunities for internships, workforce training and career readiness. The session underscored the region’s commitment to providing high-quality education from early childhood through higher education, equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in a competitive job market.

Through these collaborative efforts, St. Tammany Parish continues to foster a learning environment where students are supported, challenged, and prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the broader economy.
