Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple and State Senator Kirk Talbot, Chairman of the Senate Insurance Committee, joined our Chamber last week for an Insurance Update Breakfast focused on Louisiana’s insurance market, recent reforms and what’s ahead.
The discussion covered changes to both property and auto insurance, including reforms to property claims and adjusting processes, building standards and mitigation incentives, as well as changes affecting auto insurance claims. Temple and Talbot also discussed progress in Louisiana’s insurance market. Temple noted that commercial property rates continue to decline, while both speakers emphasized the importance of continued work to improve the availability and affordability of insurance for Louisiana businesses and residents.
Looking ahead, the speakers discussed issues that could be addressed during the 2027 legislative session, including greater transparency around third-party litigation financing, future medical awards and additional efforts related to uninsured drivers and insurance costs.
Throughout the conversation, both emphasized that insurance is an economic issue for Louisiana—not simply an issue for individual policyholders. Insurance availability and costs affect businesses, families, investment and Louisiana’s ability to attract and retain businesses. The discussion also reinforced the importance of business and community involvement as insurance issues continue to be addressed. Business leaders can help by sharing how insurance affects their businesses, employees and communities.
