(COVINGTON, LA, March 10, 2025)— As the leading voice of business in St. Tammany Parish, representing 1,100 area businesses and their 37,000 employees, St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce consistently stays informed about issues that affect the quality of life in the parish and its attractiveness to new and continuing businesses. The Chamber’s Board of Directors, after careful consideration, recently voted to support the St. Tammany Parish Government’s Sales Tax District #3’s two-cent sales tax rededication and extension initiative on the March 29, 2025, election ballot.
A portion of the rededication of this existing two-cent sales tax will provide continued funding for the Parish’s criminal justice operations, including the District Attorney’s Office and the 22nd Judicial District Court.
“Our Chamber board believes it is in the business community’s best interest to support the rededication of this existing sales tax. This decision is made after having carefully considered the information provided, engaging in lengthy discussions since last July, and having our questions answered. Most recently we held a breakfast panel discussion including Parish President Mike Cooper, Parish Council Chair Joe Impastato, District Attorney Collin Sims, Sheriff Randy Smith and Chief Judge Alan Zaunbrecher,” stated Chamber President and CEO Lacey Osborne. “It is important to support public safety in our Parish and encourage voters to vote yes to expand the use of this existing tax.” A video of this panel discussion is on the Chamber’s YouTube channel.
“We encourage our members and citizens to exercise their right to vote in this election,” said Carrie Calvin, 2025 Chamber Board Chair. “The Louisiana Secretary of State’s website www.sos.la.gov is the best place to find voting locations, important election dates and ballot information.”
