St. Joe Brick Works is the Chamber’s 2021 Legacy Award recipient given to a thriving business or organization in operation for more than 20 years that has made a long-term commitment to preserving the character of our communities in St. Tammany Parish.
In continuous operation for 130 years, generations of the Schneider family have been working in the business since 1895. Their bricks have been used on many projects including Rice University, LSU, Tulane, The Dallas Book Depository Museum, and many others.
Known for their unique product, they are one of the last remaining wood mould brick manufacturers in the country. It is a solid brick recognized by the black spots that emerge in the firing process from the iron pyrite found in the clay. Their product is considered a “Boutique Brick” and is highly desired by architects and builders. This extraordinary business is truly a staple of the St. Tammany Parish business community.
The award was presented at the Chamber’s annual Business Appreciation Luncheon in November 2021. Accepting the award were Matthew “Pete” Schneider III, CEO and president, and his son Peter Schneider IV.
