Civil engineering and consulting firm T. Baker Smith is the recipient of the Chamber’s 2020 Innovation Award for demonstrating “out-of-the-box” thinking and creative approaches to all aspects of its business.

The toughest pipeline projects are no match for this business’s creativity, dogged determination, and collaboration across its practice areas and its Gulf Coast locations—including Covington—when working through an entire project. In 2019, it won an industry excellence award for its Pump Station Monitoring System, improving drainage and enhancing flood protection for approximately 65,000 residents in Lafourche Parish. They worked with the Levee District to design, build and install a monitoring system, solving the existing data problem. A unique combination of technology was used to build the physical station, as well as the supporting cloud infrastructure, providing a user-friendly way of accessing critical data. The pump station monitoring solution solved challenges monitoring drainage, and the innovation also provides a new and effective way for the North Lafourche Levee District to manage their systems into the future.

The award was presented at the Chamber’s annual Business Appreciation Luncheon in November 2020. Accepting the award was Brian Moldaner with T. Baker Smith.
