Tchefuncte’s Restaurant and The Anchor received the St. Tammany Chamber’s 2020 Site-to-See Madisonville Award. The award honors abusiness whose appearance—inside or out—enhances the Madisonville community.
Patrons of this business enjoy stunning views as it overlooks the Tchefuncte River. While this alone is a site to see, it is lagniappe and not the reason for receiving this award, which is given in recognition of how they have transformed an empty three-story riverfront building and redesigned it into two very different new restaurants. One is an upscale restaurant with an elegant bar and a collection of private dining rooms. The other is an open-air dockside restaurant that looks like a family-friendly riverfront tavern with a playground for children, a bar for adults, a cluster of deck chairs to watch the river and a deck to a dock for boaters to pull right up. As it says on their website, it is a fresh start for a modern property tied to a long saga along the Tchefuncte—and the idea was to make it a destination on the Northshore.
The food is delicious too―whether you want a date night to really do it up with inventive local fare rooted in classic Southern cuisine—or simply want to hangout with the kids or enjoy a weeknight meal at the bar.
